On December 31, 2005, the Reverend Doctor Arthur L. Brown began his tenure as the Pastor of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  He was installed as the fourth Pastor on May 28, 2006.
Under his leadership, Tabernacle Baptist Church formed and expanded several ministries, purchased two new church vehicles, made significant improvements to the building and grounds, and upgraded the church’s audio/visual and computer technology. The church is presently preparing to enlarge its facility for greater works of ministry. Dr. Brown has a strong passion for reaching beyond the church’s walls.
In 1988, Dr. Brown accepted the Call to Ministry. He was licensed to preach in November 1989, and ordained in March 1993 by the Salem Baptist Church in Jersey City, NJ. In 1996, he completed the process to have his ordination was recognized by the American Baptist Churches of NJ.
Dr. Brown holds a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree from Drew University Theological School, a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree from the School of Theology at Virginia Union University, and did undergraduate and graduate study at Howard University and Saint Peter’s University. In 2015, he completed four units (1600 hours) of Clinical Pastoral Education in the Chaplain Residency Program at WellSpan York Hospital, a Level One Trauma Hospital, as part of the requirement for board certification in professional chaplaincy. 
Active in his denomination, Dr. Brown is presently Moderator for the Central Baptist Association. He was also elected to several leadership positions within the Pennsylvania Baptist State Convention.  He has served as Instructor for both the Pennsylvania Baptist Congress of Christian Education, and the Church Leadership Institute of the American Baptist Churches of Pennsylvania and Delaware. He is also a mentor for Field Education students from Lancaster Theological Seminary.
Prior to accepting the call to Tabernacle, he served as Pastor of Mount Sinai Baptist Church of Newark, NJ from December 1996 to December 2005.  While there the church established numerous ministries and purchased property for expansion.  
Before serving at Mount Sinai, Dr. Brown spent four years as Minister of Christian Education and Youth at Calvary BC in East Orange, NJ.  He served as Youth Minister at Saint James BC, Milford, VA; Assoc. Minister at 5th Street BC, Richmond, VA; and Assoc. Minister at Salem BC, Jersey City, NJ.
In addition to ministry, Dr. Brown was employed for seven years at Saint Peter’s University as program administrator, adjunct instructor, and student advisor.  He worked with the New Community Corporation Workforce Development Center as Math Instructor in Adult Basic Education and as a Job Coach and Welfare-to-Work Retention Specialist for six years.
A native of Jersey City, NJ, Dr. Brown is the son of Irene Brown and the late James Brown. He resides in Harrisburg, PA with his wife Deborah, Librarian for the Harrisburg School District.  They have two children, LaTasha, a graduate of Messiah College, and Arthur, Jr., a graduate of Duquesne University.
